The Mask of Balance symbolizes the many different aspects of a character. The main positive and negative sides of someone’s personality character are depicted on the mask in black and white. A central red line, also known as a dead line, divides the two sides of the mask. Throughout a person’s life they walk along this fine line, sometimes stepping onto one side or the other, often without ever realizing that they are balancing the different sides of their character. Walking the line can be interesting, exciting, fill us with adrenaline, even give us a sense of weightlessness and euphoria. Everyone needs to be balanced and while the line prevents us from being totally bad, it also ensures that we’re not totally good either. In this way the red line represents our consciousness, a large part of what makes us who we are.
